SAFETY
Safe On-Road Operation:
Wear high visibility reflective clothing and ride predictably. Obey all
of the laws of the road and ride with the flow of traffic in designated
bicycle lanes where available. Take extra precautions when
entering an intersection, look at least twice before crossing. Make
sure to use the appropriate hand signals when turning or stopping.
Remember to maintain a safe stopping distance from both
moving and stationary objects. Finally, always ride defensively and
anticipate the unexpected such as car doors opening or vehicles
backing out of driveways.
Safe Off-Road Operation:
Riding off road requires specialized skills, start gradually on
beginner trails until you are comfortable with your off-road riding
skills; be careful of uneven terrain. Always wear the appropriate
safety gear including but not limited to helmet, gloves, knee pads,
eye protection, etc.. Do not ride alone or in remote areas where help
may be far away in an emergency. Only ride on designated legal
trails; contact local land management if you are unsure of the laws
in your area. Always yield to hikers and horses or other animals on
the trail. Be prepared with sufficient water, food, and tools for the
entirety of your ride.
