5.1
Calibration
A calibration (zero point / single point) is required whenever a new sample is measured or when
the environmental cond
itions (temperature, humidity …) change. The material properties and the
radius of curvature of the uncoated calibration surface should be as similar as possible to those of
the sample. Make sure to choose similar calibration/measuring points, particularly when
measuring corners and edges of small parts. The radius of curvature, the minimum coating
thickness and minimum measurement range stated in chapter 2.1 should be observed. The meter
offers zero-point and multi-point calibration for coating thickness measurements.
5.1.1
Zero-point calibration
A zero-point calibration must be made on an uncoated calibration surface. If it is not possible to
calibrate the meter on the sample, please use the calibration plates that come with the meter.
Follow these steps:
1.
Connect the probe and turn on the meter. (chapter 4.2)
2.
Prepare the uncoated material surface or if you are using an Fe or NFe probe, use the
included material plates.
3.
Place the probe vertically on the uncoated calibration surface, applying some pressure,
and lift it as soon as you hear a beep sound. The measured value will then be displayed.
4.
Press the
key. The displayed reading will be set to 0.0. The meter must be in
measuring mode (chapter 4.3.2).
5.
Repeat step 3 to make a control measurement and to check the zero-point calibration. If
the deviation is too high, repeat the zero-point calibration.
5.1.2
Single-point calibration
For a single-point calibration with the M probes, the calibration blocks are required. With the Fe
and NFe coating thickness probes, you will need the calibration foils. When making a single-point
calibration, the calibration value should be as similar as possible to the expected measurement
value. Follow these steps:
1.
Connect the probe and turn on the meter. (chapter 4.2)
2.
Place the selected calibration block on the uncoated material surface. If this is not
possible, use the material plates that come with the Fe and NFe probes. When using the
M probes, the material surface must be 10 times as large as the probe surface.
3.
Switch to mean value mode. (chapter 4.3.2)
4.
Make three measurements. Place the probe on the calibration standard. You will hear a
sound when the reading has been taken and the probe can be removed. Before making
a new measurement, wait until the probe name (M60 in the image) is no longer
highlighted in black.
5.
Shortly press the
key twice, then shortly press

again twice to enter the value setting. The reading will now be highlighted in black. Now
enter the value that is on the calibration standard. To increase the value, press
