EZscreen Activity - Cellular Respriation
Materials Required
•
600 ml beaker
•
400 ml deionized water
•
1 package rapid active yeast
•
sugar
•
hot plate/stir plate with stir bar (optional)
1. Follow the directions on the yeast package to activate the
yeast in a beaker using tap water and sugar.
2. Fill beaker one-third full of deionized water and shake
vigorously for 10 seconds.
3. Stir 1 teaspoon sugar into the deionized water.
4. Begin recording data for 10 minutes.
5. After 30 seconds, drop 1 teaspoon of the activated yeast
solution into the water.
6. Continue stirring the solution with the probe until the oxygen
level stabilizes (or data recording stops).
7. Stop recording and save the data.
