Compressor Troubleshooting
Symptom
Probable Cause
Corrective Action
TEMPERATURE HIGH light
is on, Compressor shuts
down
• Room temp is above 90°F
• Inlet air duct is obstructed
• Cooling air fan not running
• Re-greasing procedure
not performed at 5,000 hr
intervals
• Aftercooler fins dirty, clogged
• Excessive tip seal wear
• Intake filter damaged
• Compressor is dirty
• Add ventilation or air
conditioning to room
• Remove obstruction or
reposition unit to allow for
cooling air
• Check electrical connection at
fan
• Replace cooling air fan
• Re-grease
• Clean aftercooler
• Replace tip seals per
instructions every 5,000 hrs
• Check, replace filter
• Clean unit
Compressor shuts down on
temperature malfunction
• Temperature switch has
unplugged
• Temperature switch has
failed
• Plug in temperature switch
• Replace temperature switch
Compressor turns on/off
rapidly
• Receiver tank has high
level of water
• Compressor check valve
has failed
• Defective pressure switch
• Replace electric tank drain
• Replace check valve
