Using the Terminal Interface Screens
The terminal interface screens have the following command bar items:
Initial Boot – Setting the MGMT Port IP Address
The Out-of-Band MGMT port IP address is set up in the boot screen. The initial
boot must be interrupted to set up the IP address and IP routing. The default
subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. If you need to change this, you may do so in the
inet on Ethernet field; however, the subnet mask must be entered in hex format.
Procedure
To perform initial boot and set the MGMT Port IP address:
1. Open a VT100 terminal program on the PC/laptop.
2. Connect the CRAFT port of the BitStorm 2400 to the serial port of the
PC/laptop with a DB9 cable.
3. Within 8 seconds, interrupt boot by pressing any key.
4. Enter
p
at prompt to view boot parameters.
5. Enter
c
at prompt to change boot parameters.
6. Press the Enter key to proceed through the parameters. Stop at the
other
field, where the MAC address is displayed. Note the MAC address, then
continue proceeding through the parameters. In the event you inadvertently
delete the MAC address, check the BitStorm 2400 hardware.
7. Stop at the
inet on Ethernet
field. You will notice the MAC address listed.
Next to the MAC address, enter the MAC address again (you cannot append
to the MAC address), the network IP, and the gateway IP address in the
following example format:
other (o): 00:00:00:00:02:05,200.200.200.0,172.31.31.1,
This field is broken up as follows:
00:00:00:00:02:05
– This represents the out-of-band MAC address. It is
in hex format with each byte separated by a colon. Note that the MAC is
followed by a comma.
Command Bar Item Function
MAIN MENU Returns you to the Main Menu.
APPLY Applies the values on screen to the switch and/or management
agent.
SAVE Performs an APPLY and then saves all configuration values. As
the save feature may take a while to perform its task, it is
recommended that you make all changes before selecting SAVE.
HELP Displays help for the active screen.
