TROUBLESHOOTING
The luminous switch does not light:
The circulator is not working although it has been enabled by the
adjustment thermostat:
•
Make sure there is mains power;
•
Check connections to the terminal board.
•
Make sure the luminous switch is in the closed position.
•
Check connections to the control panel’s and circulator’s terminal
boards.

USE
3.1
LIGHTING THE FIRST TIME
When lighting the fire the first few times it should be kept moderately
low.
•
If there are any unpleasant smells or fumes they are caused by the
evaporation or drying of some of the materials used. This
phenomenon will last for several days but will gradually disappear.
Note: the refractory plates covering the hearth could provoke
water to leak when the fire is lit the first few times This is a natural
phenomenon which will disappear after a few fires, with
evaporation of the humidity contained inside the new refractory
material.
3.2
LIGHTING AND RUNNING THE SYSTEM
a) Taking it that the TERMOPALEX has been installed as we have
recommended, before lighting the fire it is essential to check that
the boiler is full of water. Now check, on the control panel, that
the water gauge pointer (dial at the top right), is not on 0 (zero)
but has moved upwards at least 2 to 3 notches, see drawing (Fig.
19). This means that there is water inside the system and you can
light the heating fireplace.
b) The above check must always be made:
•
Before lighting the fire;
•
At the beginning of each winter season;
•
After a long time that the fireplace has not been used;
This will ensure that the TERMOPALEX is not lit if there is little or no
water, which could cause the fireplace to become deformed or
even break.
c ) Note: If the pointer on the water gauge is on 0 (zero),
do not light the fire, but look for the causes, such as:
•
leaks in the system
•
the water has not been topped up.
If you have any doubts, call your usual plumber.
d) If it is used together with another boiler, any gate valves or exclusion
valves must NEVER prevent the flow of steam and boiling water to
the expansion tank through the safety pipe. Therefore, before
lighting the fire, make sure that all the valves are open on the circuit
with the TERMOPALEX.
e) Turn the red main switch on which is located on the CONTROL
PANEL - it will light. Check that the pump thermostat (round knob at
the top left) is set at a temperature of about 55°C.
f )
Light the fire slowly in the TERMOPALEX, using small pieces of
firewood and open the air inlet.
g) Once the fire is burning well, you can load the heating fireplace
with enough firewood for your system. Remember that to have a
good yield, never overload with firewood and do not use pieces
that are too big or not completely dry.
h) When the temperature of the water has stabilised between 60-
70°C it means that the water in the system is at the set heating
temperature so now less firewood will be needed to keep the
TERMOPALEX at the conditions wanted.
i)
The circulation pump must be adjusted so that it will start when the
water has reached 55-60°C so the thermostat must be set between
65÷75°C.
In this way the deposits of tar and unburnt combustion products on
the fireplace’s boiler are reduced considerably, obtaining greater
efficiency and longer life.
Note: In the initial phase, when you light the fireplace, the circulation
pump will start and stop repeatedly. This is quite normal and will
continue to do so until all the cold water in the system has been
heated.
j)
IT IS NOT ADVISABLE to install room thermostats on the system
that start or stop the circulation pump, adjusting the temperature in
the rooms. For safety reasons the pump must ALWAYS work all
the time the fire it alight, disposing of the heat produced inside the
termopalex. If it is too hot in the rooms, reduce the fire, even until it
goes out if wanted.
k)
When the heating fireplace is the only source of heat, that is,
without a traditional boiler as a backup, the person planning the
heating system should plan the radiators considering that the
temperature of the water in circulation is between 70÷60° C instead
of the usual 85÷75° C.
STEADY STATE
We suggest a good live fire to start with. It will take one hour for the fire
to get the system up to the steady state, loading the hearth with 10 Kg.
of firewood during this time.
3.3
HOW TO USE THE DOOR (Fig. 21)
To open, pull the handle outwards, lifting it and then pulling the door
towards you.
Note: The pyroceram withstands high temperatures without any
problems, however, it is fragile, therefore DO NOT KNOCK IT.
3.4
TYPE OF FUEL
The Monoblocco fireplace is to be fed preferably with well-seasoned
beech or birch wood or with lignite briquettes.
Each type of wood has different characteristics that also influence
combustion yield.
The declared nominal yield of the fireplace in kW is obtained by burning
the right quantity of wood, making sure not to overload the combustion
chamber.
The table giving the calorific power of wood will help you make the
right choice for your fireplace.
Do not burn painted wood.
With any wood you decide to burn always remember to break it so that
it looses humidity: the higher its content in water, the more heat will be
needed to light up.
3.5
CONTROLLING COMBUSTION (Fig. 20)
Combustion is controlled by means of the external command at the
bottom in the centre.
•
By moving the knob +LEFT combustion is quicker;
•
By moving the knob - RIGHT combustion is slower.
3.6
ASH BOX
The ash box is big and easy to pull out. We suggest emptying it frequently
to make it easy for combustion air to get into the hearth.
3.7
SMOKE OUTLET
The monoblocco features a manually adjustable butterfly valve on the
smoke outlet pipe (Fig.7 page 4). This valve lets you regulate the outlet
of smoke as follows:
•
handle in the open position when lighting or loading
•
handle in the closed position in normal use conditions.

MAINTENANCE
4.1
CLEANING THE GLASS (Fig. 22)
To clean the inside of the glass you have to open the door by turning
the handle clockwise and then pulling the door towards you.
•
Clean the glass as follows: use either a cloth or some newspaper
that must be moistened, rolled into a ball and dipped in the ashes;
rub the glass until it is completely clean.
•
This should not be done if the fireplace is in use.
4.2
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
The termopalex should be cleaned frequently and thoroughly if it is
going to be efficient during the winter:
•
Every day throw the ashes away that have collected in the box so
as to let the primary combustion air flow freely.
•
Every week it is essential to clean the tube nests. To make this job
easier we suggest burning thin, dry pieces of firewood that will
give a bigger flame, which will help, remove the deposits that have
formed on the pipe surface. By doing this you will avoid the gradual
clogging of the smoke passage and also ensure better efficiency
of the heating fireplace.
•
At the end of the winter season: we recommend a thorough
clean using a metal brush or scraper on the smooth surfaces of the
termopalex to remove all residual carbon deposits resulting from
combustion.
•
Cleaning the flue This should be done at least twice a year, at the
start and end of the winter season and any time it is necessary.
Damp wood that has not been left to dry for at least 6 months,
besides burning probably without giving off any heat, will cause a
great deal of condensate to collect on the inside of the flue which,
together with the unburnt particles contained in the smoke, form
incrustations and deposits of soot which will call for more cleaning
and maintenance.
