Adjusting the chain
1.
Loosen the four nuts (B)
2.
Loosen the screw (A) and press the
plastic adapter to remove the chain
guard.
3.
Loosen the chain adjusting nuts (C)
and adjust the chain so that it can
move 4 mm freely up and down and
then tighten the nuts (C) and (B).
The chain will typically have a ‘loose’ point and a ‘tight point’, depending on how the
chain sits on the gearwheel. This is normal and standard for all chain-driven vehicles,
as there will always be a degree of tolerance between the free running and gearwheel.
The chain alignment must always be maintained. If the chain is noisy or operates
unevenly, check the lubrication, tensioning and the chain’s mechanical function – in
that order.
WARNING – To avoid trapped fingers or injury, always keep fingers at a safe distance
from the chain and gearwheel when these are moving.
