frequently as necessary to eliminate a buildup of
soot or permanent discoloration.
Maintenance Tasks – Qualified Service
Technician
The following tasks must be performed by a
qualified service technician.
NOTICE:
Soot may accumulate on the pilot
assembly and the area above the firebox opening.
Periodic cleaning may be required.
Burner Ignition and Operation

Tools needed:
Protective gloves, vacuum cleaner,
whisk brook, flashlight, voltmeter, indexed drill set
and a manometer.
• Check for smooth lighting and ignition
carryover to all ports. Verify that there is no
ignition delay.
•
Inspect for lifting or other flame problems.
• Verify manifold and inlet pressures. Adjust
regulator as required.
•
Inspect pilot flame pattern and strength. Clean
or replace orifice spud as necessary.
•
Inspect pilot flame sensing rod for soot,
corrosion and deterioration. Polish with fine
steel wool or replace as required.
•
Verify that there is not a short in flame sense
circuit by checking continuity between pilot
hood and flame sensing rod. Replace pilot as
necessary.
