8. TROUBLESHOOTING
8.1. If the HX Program Stops
The HX incorporates an onboard computer running the Windows Mobile operating system.
Occasionally (for example, if you remove the memory card during monitoring) the operating
system could stop responding to external commands. Press the On/Off button on the base of the
touchscreen bezel to display the Password screen, enter the password to display the Power
menu, and tap Restart. The HX will restart on the Home screen. If the computer does not
respond to a quick press-and-hold of the On/Off button, press and hold the button for 30 seconds
until the unit reboots.
8.2. If You Drop the HX
The HX has been drop-tested to destruction in development and is known to have a high degree
of survivability to “normal” shock and vibration. If the instrument is dropped:
!
Disconnect from any external power source and disconnect any USB connection. Navigate to
Main Menu, Settings, Advanced (password), Hardware, Power, then select Power Off.
Wait 5 seconds, then turn the unit back on. This should reset any mechanical relays that
might have been deactivated by the drop.
!
Inspect the exterior for evidence of mechanical damage or distortion.
!
Listen for any unusual noises (rattling or pinging) emanating from the cooler.
!
Monitor the unit for the next few hours to ensure that it remains
Ready
(indicating that the
cooler and bias voltage are functioning properly). If possible, use a known source and
confirm that the HX successfully identifies it.
If the unit fails in one or more of these respects or if one or more hardware diagnostic settings
(navigate to Main Menu, Settings, Status) indicate a hardware failure, contact your
maintenance personnel, your ORTEC representative, or our Global Service Center for further
assistance. Remember that there are no user-serviceable parts inside the HX and opening the
case will void the warranty.
8.3. If the HX Will Not Turn On
!
Attach the HX to the ac power adapter/charger, connect it to an ac source, then restart the
unit by navigating to Main Menu, Settings, Advanced (password), Hardware, Power; and
selecting Restart.
