When you hold your finger on certain letters, among the choices of characters are normal
numbers, such as the number 3. They generally match the location of the numbers on the number
keyboard. It’s a quick way of inserting a number without having to switch back and forth between the
numeric and letter keyboards.
The Quick Nav Bar
Wherever you are on your NOOK Tablet, it’s easy to get anywhere else. Press the
NOOK button, and voilà, the Quick Nav bar appears. It pops up over whatever
else you’re doing. You can then use the Quick Nav bar to hop to wherever you
want to go on your NOOK.
Here’s what each of the buttons on the Quick Nav bar does:

In late 2011 and early 2012, the NOOK Color was automatically given a software update that
made it look and work almost identically to the NOOK Tablet. Before the update, the NOOK button
didn’t make the Quick Nav bar appear, for example, and instead brought you to the Home screen.
There were many other differences as well. Your NOOK Color should have automatically updated to the
newest software. If it didn’t, what you see on it may differ slightly from what appears in this book. To
manually update your NOOK Color to the latest software, turn to page 435.
• Home. Heads you to the Home screen (page 27) with all its features, such
as the Daily Shelf (page 56) and any books, magazines, or newspapers
you’ve put on the Home screen.
• Library. Tap and you go to your Library (page 159), which has all your
books and magazines.
• Shop.
Takes you to the Barnes & Noble NOOK Store (page 146), for buying
books, periodicals, and apps.
• Search.
Tap to launch the NOOK’s very nifty search feature, which per-
forms a global search all of your books, magazines, newspapers, and files.
It also has a little bit of extra searching magic, and searches the Web and
the Barnes & Noble NOOK Store.
