5.2.2 Round off all the edges on the tail and fin EXCEPT those where the tail fin joins the tail plane. The best way

to do this is lay the parts flat on your working board and then slide the parts over the edge of the board and
then sand them round

5.2.3 Glue the tail fin in the middle of the tail plane making sure that it is upright ( use a set

Square) Use pins to hold it place until the glue has set

5.2.4 Glue finished tail assembly on to the fuselage tube 8 so that it protrudes 64mm over the end of the tube 8

, see plan 9. Ensure that the tail assembly is glued squarely on to the tube by using a ruler or straight edge
(See pattern 11 in the plan).

5.3 Final assembly of the fuselage

5.3.1 Take the fuselage tube with tail the tail assembly and slot it into the planes nose compartment making sure

that the tail assembly is correctly lined up.

5.4 Making the wings

5.4.1 Lay a sheet of hard foam on your  work board , this will serve as the bottom half of the wing section 15 (3 x

125 x 500mm )  Now position a length of dowel 43mm from the leading edge of the wing. See sketch 11
page 9 .Lay a second sheet ( 3 x 125 x 500mm) of hard foam directly on top of the first. Take a steel edge
and a sharp knife and make a cut ( Not all the way through ,only about 2mm deep ) along where the dowel is
and bend the top sheet with a knick over the top of the dowel along its length
Now glue the dowel in place along the lower half of the wing. Hold it in place with pins until it is dry. Then
place the top sheet on gluing it along the leading and tail edges
Use pins to hold the foam sheets together until they are dry. Sand the front edge of the wing square and
glue the pine strip leading edge in place 17 (3 x 6 x 500mm ) - sand this to a profile as well –see plans
The second wing is made in the same way.

5.4.2 Joining the wings together.

Before joining the wings together at the correct angle, an angle of 7 degrees at the root of the wing must be
sanded with a block and glass paper. Use the pattern V provided on page 9 to achieve the correct angle
Place a strip of sellotape ( 15mm) underneath the wings at the roots of one of the wings so that it stands
out over the edge- Place a plastic sheet on your work board and lay the wing on the top. Offer up the second
wing tightly to the first and press it down on to the sellotape. If this correct both wings should lay flat and the
surface of your work board cannot be seen because of the tightness of the joint. This part of the wing buil-
ding is very important –if you do not understand this procedure it is best to find someone to ask who has ex-
perience in building model planes.
Now add some glue into the gap between the two wings. Weight one wing down on the building board and
raise the other wing up so that it is 120mm at the tip from the board ( See patter V1 ) Wipe away any excess
glue and check that the wing half on the building board is laying exactly flat on the surface right up to the
glued joint
Leave the glue to set .

NOTE!

This joint alone is not strong enough to hold the wings together. If you do not add this strengthening banda-
ge the wings will soon break up !!!!!
Glue the bandage 18 (20 x 260mm) around the joint once its dry making sure that it is held in place by rub-
bing PVA glue down through the weave of the material

Start by applying the PVA to the wing joint

itself , making a 2.5 cm strip with your finger . The place the

bandage in position and press it down, once in place rub in a further layer of glue on top. Apply enough glue
but spread it thinly. Wipe away any excess glue and leave the

strengthened joint to dry thoroughly

Finally glue the wing tips 19 ( See pattern 9 )on each end of the wing ( 6 x 14 x 135mm) Once dry sand
them in with the wing profile

The wings are joined to the fuselage using the rubber bands (20)
