Setup and Operation
Inserting/replacing batteries
For operation, the transmitter and the receiver require a 9V battery
each.
1) Lift the battery compartment cover by pressing the locking tab and
removing the cover.
2) If applicable, remove the discharged battery.
3) Connect the new battery to the terminals of the snap connector
observing the correct polarity. Place the battery into the battery
compartment
4) Carefully replace the battery compartment cover.
To prevent damage to the device through leaking batteries, remove the
battery from the device if you do not need it for a longer period.
Testing cables
1) Make sure that the cable to be tested does not carry any voltage (i.e. no cable end is connected to a
device).
2) Plug the connectors of the cable into the corresponding jacks on either side of the cable tester.
3) Set the power switch (8) on the transmitter to ON. The power indicator (4) lights up.
4) Set the selector switch (5) on the receiver to CABLE TEST. The power indicator (4) lights up.
5) If both ends of the cable are properly connected, the pin indicator LEDs (10) will begin to flash and a
beep will sound to confirm the continuity of pin 1.
Notes
• The switching of the pin tested occurs automatically starting from 1 and repeats itself after the last pin. The
test always runs through the maximum possible display area of the pin indicator LEDs (10). If a cable
contains fewer cores, only these areas are displayed. The cable assignment can also be identified by this
display.
• If the LEDs do not flash and the beep does not sound immediately once the receiver has been turned on, it
indicates that pin 1 of the cable if faulty. Pin 1 needs to be connected in order for the cable tester to begin
working.
• The 3.5 mm/6.3 mm jack inputs are stereo, therefore if you are testing a mono jack only insert it into the
cable tester to the second click. When inserted properly LEDs 1 and 3 will flash in sequence. If you insert a
mono jack connector all the way, the LEDs on the receiver unit will dim in intensity as the ring and sleeve
are shorted by the jack being used.
6) To change the flashing speed of the LEDs, set the speed selector (9) to fast, medium or slow.
7) To switch off, set switches (5) and (8) to OFF.
Testing long and preinstalled cables
1) To test cables that have been installed
through walls or ceilings, the transmitter and
receiver can be separated by sliding them
apart at the lateral slot and spring. Connect
each side to the cable to be tested.
2) The pin indicator LEDs (10) will flash on both
sides to show each pin’s continuity.
