Place slide with your sample on stage
Start with a lower objective when
imaging samples to identify areas of
interest.
For objectives 4X and
below, flip OUT the swing-‐out lens
so that the light spreads over the
field of view.
Focus on edge of cover slip to find
general focal plane.

Rotate objective of choice into
position using the nosepiece.
Use the
condenser focus
knob to
position the condenser as close as
possible to the slide.
Use the
microscope focus
knob to
bring the sample into crisp focus.
Rotate the
field diaphragm
to a more
closed position
by turning
clockwise.
Use the
condenser focus knob
to
adjust the condenser height so that
the field diaphragm appears crisply
focused when viewed through the
microscope.
