7. Biotec Filter Setup and Assembly
Select a suitable location for the Biotec filter. Pay attention to the installation instruc-
tions for the clear water guarantee and the following instructions:
– Set up the filter where it is protected from flooding. Insure that the filter cannot fall
into the pond. In this regard maintain a minimum clearance to the edge of the
pond of at
least 2 m
.
– Place the filter on a firm and even base, e.g. on a terrace tile. Use a water level to
insure that the filter is level.
– Lay the drain tubes for the water discharge and the cleaning discharge, before
you set up the filter. Check whether the incline is sufficient to allow the water to
flow out of the filter.
– Insure unobstructed access to the lid for working at the filter e.g. cleaning the
filter pads.
Mount the hose connections
Determine which hose diameter you need depending on the pump used (see operating
instructions for the pump).
Note:
We recommend heating the hose with warm water, pushing it or twisting it over
the stepped hose tail and securing it with a hose clamp. This improves the seal on the
connection.
Mounting on the water intake
1. Push the threaded collar over the included open stepped hose tail.
2. Push or twist the hose onto the stepped hose tail and secure with a hose clamp.
3. Insert the flat gasket into the threaded collar and screw it tightly onto the water
intake duct.
If you have connected a UVC bulb to the Biotec filter you can disregard step 4.
4. Seal the second water intake with the closed hose tail included.
5. Lay the hose all the way to the pump in such a manner that it cannot be stepped
on and has no kinks.
6. Connect the other end of the hose to the pump according to the pump’s operating
instructions.
Mounting on the water discharge
You will require tube pieces and elbows for the water discharge (Biotec 18: DN 70,
Biotec
36
: DN 100). Insure that the drain tube is UV resistant if you lay the tubing in the open.
1. Put the tube pieces together and lay the tubing from the water discharge to the
pond on a slight incline (at least 1%).
Substrate chamber
Grill tubes are located in the substrate chamber that can be filled with various materials
such as filter starter, zeolith, active charcoal and other things. These chemically or
biologically effective additives support pond water treatment, e.g. phosphates are bound.
Water discharge
Tubing (
Biotec
18: DN 70,
Biotec 36
: DN 100) is connected to the water discharge.
The clarified water is returned to the pond via the tubing.
Mechanical cleaning of the pad inserts
The pad inserts can be cleaned with the cleaning tool by strong compression.
Cleaning discharge
The polluted water that collects in the filter container when cleaning the pad inserts
is diverted into the drainage system or into the flower bed via connected tubing
(
Biotec
18: DN 50,
Biotec 36
: DN 70). The wastewater is an ideal flower fertilizer.
The cleaning discharge is opened via a slide gate.
