NAVIGATOR OPERATING MANUAL
NW Explorations
4G6: DC Electronics Breaker Panel
Above the lower helm on the electronics panel is a group of breakers for the
DC to each of the ship’s electronic instruments. The use of each breaker is
clearly labeled, controlling power to the autopilot, radar, GPS, VHF radios,
depth sounder systems, and speed log.
4G7: DC Battery Voltmeter
A voltmeter is in the stack of instruments to right of the helm and left of the
cabin door. The switch selects the battery being monitored:
“1” = The Main Engine Starting Battery;
“2” = The House Battery Bank;
“3” = The Generator Starting Battery.
A fully charged battery that is idle is 12.8 volts; a battery getting “float”
charge is 13.2 volts; a less- than-full battery getting charged is 14.2
volts. A battery is considered “dead” at 10 volts.
4G8: DC Pathmaker
The boat is equipped with a “Pathmaker”. This device automatically
combines the batteries whenever charging voltage is available, thus
assuring the operator that all are fully charged and that all charging
current is available to every battery for minimum recharging time. It is
controlled by the small panel to right of the lower helm. Normally (in the
“Auto” position) the unit should be left alone.
If, however, you wish to defeat the combining function (if, for instance,
a battery is damaged and/or shorted), turn the switch “off”. Likewise, to
manually combine the batteries, turn the switch to “on”.
