Troubleshooting

Symptom

Probable Cause

Remedy

When the Display Pad is plugged in there is a

Improperly wired Cat-5 cable.

Check that you are using the 568A-wiring stan-

loud pop through the speakers and the keypad

dard. (See section I: Crimping Cat-5 Wire). It is

also recommended that you use a Cat-5 cable
tester to verify that all the connections are
good and communicate properly.

off using the "Menu/Hot Key". Check the source
grouping status in the zones tab of the
Configuration.

With the Display Pads plugged in, the POWER

when the Network cable is unplugged. Next
unplug all the Cat-5 cables from the EZ Port
and plug them back in one at a time until the
bad cable is discovered.

The IR repeater does not properly control the
audio source equipment.

One or more of the IR emitters are not properly
placed over the IR receiver on the audio source
equipment, or the IR output on the Concerto
does not correspond with the audio source
equipment you are controlling. A third possibil-
ity is that the IR pass-through is turned off in
the software configuration of the system.

Reposition the LED end of the emitter on the
face of the source equipment, so it is flashing
directly over the IR receiver. Make sure that the
emitter plugged into IR Output #1 is actually
going to source #1, and so on for sources 2-6.
Also, check the configuration. It is possible to
turn the IR pass-through function off for any
zone.

Display Pad is turned on, but the zone has no
audio output.

A dead short in the speaker line, the zone is
muted, the source selected is not in play mode,
or the speaker wire has become disconnected.

Correct the short on the speaker line. Check the
Display Pad status for mute. This will appear in
red letters at the top of the display. Make sure
the selected source is turned on and in play
mode. Check the speaker wire connection at the
amplifier.

The audio output is very sporadic.

The speakers are defective, or there is less than
a 4-ohm (two pairs of 8-ohm speakers) load on
the amplifier.

The amplifiers have a protective circuit on the
output.  Over exerting the amplifier with an
ohm load below 4 ohms, or a partial short creat-
ed by defective speakers will cause the amplifi-
er to go in and out of protect mode. Try discon-
necting the speakers one at a time to see if the
symptom goes away. If you are using more than
one pair of 8-ohm speakers, it may be necessary
to utilize additional amplification.

IR control is very unreliable, but the IR emitter
flashes when a command is issued.

The equipment IR is not set to operate at the
system’s default 38khz modulation.

Go to the IR Library in the Configuration, and
delete the source.  It can then be relearned
using the IR interface box and a new frequency
carrier can then be assigned.
