Iklwa Laser User Manual

The Iklwa laser consists of three interconnected subsystems. The optics subsystem
contains the laser oscillator. The diode power supply supplies current to the diodes. The
chiller provides thermal control. The user must supply prime power and cooling to the
optics subsystem.

quotation for performance specifications for the particular laser purchased.

Chiller must be able to circulate coolant at the approximately 60 psi required in
Northrop Grumman lasers, see final test report for each laser specific required pressure.

Drain the chiller, and replace the coolant and filter monthly. This may be required more
often if the system shows signs of contamination.
Electronic Interface
Diode Array Current:
The diode array voltage and current operating parameters are
supplied on the laser head test data sheet. The standard 16 W Iklwa laser uses a 12 bar
laser diode module. Assuming 1.8 Volts per bar, the typical operating voltage is 21.6
VDC. Beginning of life operating current is typically 25 Amps or less. Operating the
laser diodes with higher diode driver current increases diode degradation, and decreases
diode lifetime.
RTD
: the RTD is 15 KOhm at 25° C. The temperature vs. resistance table is published on

TEC Controller
: the Iklwa user manual is written with respect to using the Oven
Industries 5C7-195 TEC Controller. Note that the H-Bridge (both heating and cooling) is
used in a voltage of 5 V. The thermoelectric cooler is a typical Peltier Module with these
specs:
