Format the memory card
Memory cards must be formatted before first use.
Note that formatting
memory cards permanently deletes any data they may contain
. Be sure
to copy any photographs and other data you wish to keep to a com-
puter before proceeding (
169).
To format the card, turn the camera on and hold the
(
and
)
buttons down simultaneously for approximately two seconds. A blink-
ing
will appear in the shutter-speed display and the frame count
will blink. Pressing both buttons together a second time will format the
memory card. Press any other button to exit without formatting.
During formatting, the letters
will be appear in the frame-count
display.
Do not remove the card or battery or unplug the AC adapter
(available separately) during formatting
. When formatting is complete,
the frame-count display will show the number of photographs that can
be recorded at current settings.
No Memory Card
If no memory card is inserted in the camera when a
charged EN-EL3 battery is inserted or the camera is pow-
ered by an AC adapter,
will appear control panel
exposure-count display. When the camera is on and
indicators are displayed in the viewfinder, the exposure-
count display in the viewfinder will also show
