With the left mouse button, click
Properties
. The
General
tab shows
the random access memory (RAM). This is the amount of system
memory in your computer.
In Windows 98 or Windows 2000, you can also find the amount of
memory by pointing to
My Computer
, clicking the right mouse button,
and selecting the
Performance
tab.
Note
If you find a discrepancy in the amount of memory displayed at
the Power-On Self-Test or in Windows with the amount of memory that
you installed, check that you installed the memory modules correctly.
Removing a DIMM
If your memory configuration requires the removal of a DIMM module,
use the following steps.
Before opening the system and before handling
boards or memory modules, reduce static discharge by touching the
chassis.
1.
Remove the cover (see “Removing the Cover” earlier in this chapter).
2. Locate the memory upgrade sockets on the system board (see the
figure “Locating the memory module and processor sockets” earlier
in this chapter).
3. Eject a DIMM by pressing the plastic clips at the outer edges of the
socket away from the memory module (see the following figure).
