Exiting the Automated Attendant
To exit the Automated Attendant
Hang up.
Exiting a Mailbox
After you call a mailbox to listen to its messages or use other Voice Mail system features, you exit the mailbox
as described below. The instructions apply to Subscriber, Guest, Message Center, Future Delivery, and
Network Mailboxes. To exit an Announcement Mailbox, see
Calling an Announcement Mailbox.
To exit a mailbox
Press X X (9 9) or hang up.
To exit a mailbox, then return to it
Press X (9).
To exit a mailbox and return to the Automated Attendant
You cannot return to the Automated Attendant after you dial 9 to exit a Guest or Future Delivery Mailbox from
an inside extension.

Press X (9).
Listen for the message:
To go to the Automated Attendant, press the star key
(if you do not hear
this message, you cannot call the Automated Attendant). You will not hear it if you exit a Subscriber
or Message Center Mailbox from an inside extension and that mailbox is not programmed with a
Next Call Routing Mailbox.

Press *
If exiting from outside the company, this step calls the Automated Attendant (Instruction Menu) that
originally handled your call.
If exiting a Message Center or Subscriber Mailbox from an inside extension, this step calls the
Automated Attendant (Welcome Message and Instruction Menu) that is set up for the Subscriber’s
or Message Center’s Next Call Routing Mailbox (which may be different than the Automated
Attendant that answers your company’s incoming calls).
