Lung age calculation
If the
Lung Age calculation
check box is selected, the lung age is displayed on
the result screen and printed on the report. The lung age is only displayed if
the patient is a smoker. You can set the smoker status on the summary screen.
When the calculated lung age is lower than the patient’s actual age, the
patient’s actual age is displayed.
In the default setting, the
Lung Age calculation
check box is deselected.
Automatic QC grading
If the
Automatic QC grading
check box is selected, quality messages for trial
and quality grades for tests are displayed.
In the default setting, the
Automatic QC grading
check box is selected.

End-of-maneuver criteria selection
If you choose the
FVC
option, the measurement continues until the end of test
criteria are met or until you end the test manually. With this setting, all the
intermediate flow values, e.g. MEF
25
, FEF
25-75
, are reported.
If you choose the
FEV6
option, the measurement stops after six seconds. With
this setting, none of the intermediate flow values, e.g. MEF
25
, FEF
25-75
, are
reported.
The FVC test determines the forced expiratory vital capacity. The forced
expiratory vital capacity is the maximum volume that the patient can exhale
during the FVC breathing maneuver and is indicated by the FVC value in the
report.
The FEV
6
value indicates the forced expiratory volume that the patient has
exhaled after six seconds.
For diagnostic purposes, the FVC value is comparable with the FEV
6
value. The
advantage of choosing the
FEV6
option is that the FVC test only takes the
fixed duration of six seconds and is less demanding for the patient (see
Ferguson (2000/NLHEP) [4]). The disadvantage is that the intermediate flow
values, e.g. MEF
25
, FEF
25-75
, cannot be reported.

The peak expiratory flow can be specified in liters per minute (L/min) or in
liters per second (L/s).
