NAVMAN
GPS 4100
Tip: If your GPS 4100
loses its GPS
fi
x when
moved inside your
vehicle (i.e. it has a
fi
x
immediately outside the
vehicle.) you will need
to install an optional
Navman external
antenna.
INSTALLING THE GPS 4100 RECEIVER IN A VEHICLE
Before installing the GPS 4100 Receiver in your vehicle, check whether your vehicle is
fi
tted with an athermic (heat
re
fl
ecting) or a heated windshield. If so, you will need to purchase a Navman external antenna to allow your GPS 4100
to pick up the GPS signals. For more information on this and other accessories, refer to Section 6.
Because the GPS receiver communicates with your PDA via a wireless Bluetooth connection, the PDA and GPS
receiver are mounted separately. The GPS receiver is supplied with three mounting options:
•
Suction mount to attach the receiver to the inside of a vehicle windshield, dash or back window.
•
Non-slip pad to allow the receiver to rest in the back window without sliding around.
•
Self-adhesive mounting pad to allow the GPS receiver to be adhered to a suitable horizontal surface.
Your GPS 4100 system is not supplied with a vehicle mount for your PDA. If you wish to mount your PDA such that
you can view the maps as you travel, contact your retailer for information about windscreen, dash and vent mounting
options.
Follow these mounting instructions carefully to ensure proper installation. For security purposes and to avoid
overheating, do not leave the GPS receiver or your PDA on the dash or attached to the windshield while your vehicle is
unattended, especially in strong sunlight.

Locating the GPS Receiver
Use the following guides to choose a suitable location for the GPS receiver:
•
Make sure the receiver has as good a view of the sky and horizon as
possible.
•
The receiver must not obstruct your view, or interfere with the operation
of the vehicle or the vehicle safety equipment.
•
Ensure that the receiver unit is accessible so that you can change the
batteries and operate the On/Off switch.
•
Avoid placing the receiver near sources of electrical interference or noise.
Note: If you are not sure
if a location is suitable,
check that the receiver
operates correctly in the
chosen location before
mounting permanently.
