Getting a GPS Fix
The GPS 4100 receives GPS signals through the Bluetooth GPS Receiver. In order to attain good GPS performance,
signals must be obtained from three or more satellites. The term "GPS
fi
x" is used to describe when your receiver has
enough information from the satellites to calculate your position.
1
To get a GPS
fi
x, ensure that your receiver is positioned according to the guidelines in Section 4-1.
2 When
you
fi
rst power on your GPS 4100 and program a route, it may take several minutes to get the
fi
rst GPS
fi
x. You can minimize the amount of time that this takes by remaining stationary in your vehicle until the GPS 4100
has a position
fi
x. This is also important if the GPS 4100 has not had a
fi
x for four or more hours.
3
If GPS performance is consistently poor:
•
Review the installation instructions (see Section 4);
•
Check satellite reception from your third party navigation software.
Tip: It may take a few
minutes to obtain an
initial position
fi
x, but will
subsequently be much
quicker.
