6. ON-AIR TRANSMITTER
SERVICING
The procedures in paragraphs 6.1 and 6.2
should be used when it is desired to
maintain one transmitter on-air while
servicing/testing another.
6.1 SERVICING TRANSMITTER B
WITH TRANSMITTER A ON-AIR:
If transmitter B is to be serviced and/or
tested with transmitter A on the air, proceed
as follows:
(a)
Set dual transmitter interface
assembly’s
MAIN TRANSMITTER

SELECT
switch to

(b)
Set transmitter B's
POWER
switch to
OFF
.
(c)
Disable standby on/off control by
connecting a jumper between CR2-
Anode of transmitter B’s monitor PWB
(2A5) and ground.
(d)
Disconnect the coaxial cable (P11)
from transmitter B's RF output coaxial
connector (2A7J2).
(e)
Connect a 250-watt, precision, 50-
ohm, resistive dummy load to
connector 2A7J2 of transmitter B
using a suitable coaxial cable.
NOTE
The cable disconnected in step (c) is
tyrapped in the cable harness and should
not be used for connection between
transmitter B and an external dummy load.
A user-provided coaxial cable should be
obtained.
(f)
Set transmitter B's
LOCAL

REMOTE
switch to
LOCAL

(g)
Set transmitter B’s
POWER
switch to
ON
and perform servicing and/or testing
procedures on transmitter B.
(h)
On successful completion of
maintenance procedures, set
transmitter B's
POWER
switch to
OFF
.
Reconnect cable removed in step (d)
and remove the jumper installed in
step (c).
(i)
Set transmitter B's
POWER
switch to
ON
and
LOCAL
/
REMOTE
switch to the
desired position.
6.2 SERVICING TRANSMITTER A
WITH TRANSMITTER B ON-AIR:
If transmitter A is to be serviced and/or
tested with transmitter B on the air, proceed
as follows
:
(a)
Set dual transmitter interface
assembly’s
MAIN TRANSMITTER – SELECT
switch to
B

(b)
Set
POWER
switch of both transmitters
to
OFF
.
(c)
Disable standby on/off control by
connecting a jumper between CR2-
Anode of transmitter A’s monitor PWB
(1A5) and ground.
(d)
Disconnect connector P11 from
transmitter B's RF output coaxial
connector (2A7J2).
(e)
Disconnect connector P10 from
transmitter A's RF output coaxial
connector (1A7J2).
(f)
Disconnect the antenna system cable
mating with the dual cabinet's RF
output coaxial connector (J1).
(g)
Connect the antenna system to
transmitter B’s RF output (2A7J2).
Feed the cable through the front of the
dual cabinet if necessary.
