Conventions Used in This Manual
The following conventions appear in this manual.

8253 refers to the OKI Semiconductor 82C53 System Timing Controller
integrated circuit.

Angle brackets containing numbers separated by an ellipsis represent a
range of values associated with a bit or signal name (for example,
BDIO<3...0>).
bold
Bold text denotes the names of menus, menu items, parameters, dialog
boxes, dialog box buttons or options, icons, windows [Windows OS],
Windows 95 tabs or pages, or LEDs.
bold italic
Bold italic text denotes a note, caution, or warning.
italic
Italic text denotes emphasis, a cross reference, or an introduction to a key
concept. This text denotes text for which you supply the appropriate word
or value, such as in Windows 3.x.
italic monospace
Italic text in this font denotes that you must supply the appropriate words
or values in the place of these items.
monospace
Bold text in this font denotes the messages and responses that the
computer automatically prints to the screen. This font also emphasizes
lines of code that are unique from the other examples.
monospace
Text in this font denotes text or characters that you should literally enter
from the keyboard, sections of code, programming examples, and syntax
examples. This font also is used for the proper names of disk drives,
paths, directories, programs, subprograms, subroutines, device names,
functions, operations, variables, filenames, and extensions, and for
statements and comments taken from program code.
NI-DAQ
NI-DAQ refers to the NI-DAQ software for PC compatibles unless
otherwise noted.

directories, folders, and files.
