POWER SEQUENCING

Power sequencing allows equipment to be powered up in stages, which gives equipment
time to idle before the next group of equipment is powered on. When powering down, the
sequence order is reversed.
There are many benefits to sequencing power, with the elimination of "speaker pop" being
the main one for AV applications. Speaker pop is the loud popping noise that occurs when
AV components are activated simultaneously or out of sequence. Speaker pop can stress
or damage sound system components, such as amplifiers and speakers. By delaying the
activation of the amplifiers until the low level equipment has had the opportunity to idle,
speaker pop is virtually eliminated.
Power sequencing is also useful in preventing breaker trips. Amplifiers have high in-rush
currents at power up. If multiple amplifiers are activated simultaneously, the in-rush
currents sum together and can exceed the capacity of the circuit, which can cause the
circuit breaker to trip. The 604830 will activate zones in 3 second intervals, eliminating
speaker pop and reducing the risk of tripping a circuit breaker. The order of activation is
reversed when deactivating, by turning off high-power devices first.
