Connection to a spring clamp terminal block

Only one wire can be connected to one spring clamp terminal.

Applicable wires
– Stranded wire/single wire

Use wires with a cross section of 0.2 to 1.5 mm

– When a ferrule with insulation sleeve is used

Use wires with a cross section of 0.25 to 0.75 mm

– When a ferrule with no insulation sleeve is used

Use wires with a cross section of 0.25 to 1.5 mm

Wire end treatment

Strip the wire about 10 mm from the tip to connect a wire ferrule at the striped
area. If the wire strip length is too long, it may result in electric shock or short
circuit between adjacent terminals. If the wire strip length is too short, it may
result in the poor contact to the spring clamp terminal part.
When using a ferrule with insulating sleeve, the outside dimensions must cor-
respond to the measurements given in the following figure.

Connection and disconnection of wires

Wiring without a tool is possible by inserting a wire into the spring clamp ter-
minal block. However, a tool is required for stranded wires without ferrules.

Connection of a wire

Fully insert a solid wire or a stranded wire with ferrule into the wire insertion opening.
If a stranded wire without a ferrule is used or if a solid wire or a stranded wire
with ferrule cannot be inserted, insert the wire while pushing the open/close
button with a flathead screwdriver having a tip width of 2.0 to 2.5 mm. After
fully inserting the wire, remove the screwdriver.
Pull the wire slightly to check that the wire is securely clamped.

Disconnection of a wire

Push the open/close button with a flathead screwdriver having a tip width of
2.0 to 2.5 mm, and pull out the wire.

Removing and installing the terminal block

Lever position to lock and release

A lever locks the terminal bock and facilitates the installation and removal of
the terminal block. When removing or installing the terminal block, move the
lever to the corresponding position.

Removal of a terminal block

Rotate the lever to the release position, and remove the terminal block from
the module.

Installation of a terminal block

Move the lever to the release position, and insert the terminal block. When the
terminal block is inserted sufficiently, the lever latch engages with the module
and the terminal block is engaged with the module.
Check that the lever is at the lock position, and pull the terminal block slightly
to check that the module and terminal block are completely engaged.

Input wiring

The input module FX5-C32EX/DS-TS and the I/O modules FX5-C32ET/DS(S)-TS
can be used with sink or source switching devices. The decision is made by the
different connections of the S/S terminal.

Sink input wiring
Sink input means that a contact wired to the input (X) or a sensor with NPN
open collector transistor output connects the input of the PLC with the
negative pole of the power supply.
In the case of the sink input type, the S/S terminal is connected to the pos-
itive pole of the power supply.

Source input wiring
Source input means that a contact wired to the input (X) or a sensor with
PNP open collector transistor output connects the input of the PLC with the
positive pole of the power supply.
To select the source input type, connect the S/S terminal of a

FX5-C32EX/

DS-TS or a FX5-C32ET/DS(S)-TS

to the negative pole of the power supply.

Notes for connecting input devices

Selection of contacts
The input current of these modules is 4 mA for 24 V DC. Use input devices
applicable to this minute current. If no-voltage contacts (switches) for large
current are used, contact failure may occur.

Connection of input devices with built-in series diode
Depending on the base unit and input used, the voltage drop of the series
diode should be 2.4 V or less. When lead switches with a series LED are
used, up to two switches can be connected in series. Also make sure that
the input current is over the input-sensing level while the switches are ON.

Connection of input devices with built-in parallel resistance
Use a device having a parallel resistance, Rp, of 13 k



or more. If the resist-

ance is less than 13 k



, connect a bleeder resistance R, obtained by the fol-

lowing formula:

Connection of 2-wire proximity switches
Use a two-wire proximity switch whose leakage current, I

, is 1.5 mA or less

when the switch is off. When the current is 1.5 mA or more, connect a blee-
der resistance R, determined by the following formula:

Output wiring

The outputs of the FX5 output modules and input/output modules are pooled
into groups of 8 or 16 outputs. Each group has two common terminals for the
load voltage. These terminals are marked "COM

" for modules with relay out-

puts or transistor outputs of the sink type and "+V

" for modules with source

transistor outputs. "

" stands for the number of the output group e. g.

"COM0".

Relay outputs

The output groups can drive loads of different circuit voltage systems (for
example: 230 V AC and 24 V DC).

Transistor outputs

Please note that the output wiring for the modules FX5-C32EYT/D-TS and FX5-
C32ET/DS-TS with sink outputs differs from the output wiring for the modules
FX5-C32EYT/DSS-TS and C32ET/DSS-TS with source outputs.

Sink output (– common)

An output to make load current flow into the output (Y) terminal is called a
sink output.

The number "0" or "1" is applied in "

Source output (+ common)

An output to make load current flow out of the output (Y) terminal is called
source output.

NOTE

The inputs (X) of FX5-C32EX/DS-TS and FX5-C32ET/DS(S)-TS can be set to either
