10. DRIVING WITH THE MINOS POWER
The first test drive.
Before you test drive your wheelchair for the first time, find a quiet place where you have plenty of
space and a flat surface. Make sure that someone is there to give you supervision and assistance!
Take your time and relax while you are practicing, allow yourself plenty of time. The MINOS POWER
is easy to operate, very easy to manoeuvre and has powerful motors. But above all, you will have
the reassuring certainty of its safe performance. In short, you will soon have the MINOS POWER
under control.
Steering:
Make sure that the MINOS POWER is set to the minimum speed during the first few practice runs.
Make sure that your forearm is supported by the armrest before you touch the joystick. Now move
the joystick with a gradual movement in the direction you want to go.
You will find the steering on the MINOS POWER both light and precise making it very easy to mano-
euvre!
Turning corners:
First, practice taking wide corners and driving in circles. Do this at low speed. Once you have mas-
tered this, start practicing tighter corners. Do not lean out while turning corners.
Driving backwards:
Ensure that the MINOS POWER is set at the minimum speed. Move the joystick backwards slightly.
It’s worth a little extra practice; being able to drive backwards is particularly handy in small spaces.
Going through a door opening:
Drive up to the door at an angle and check first if it opens towards you or away from you.
Hold the door handle or bar in one hand and keep your other hand on the joystick.
Open the door and drive forwards or backwards, depending on which direction the door opens.
Ramps and slopes:
1. Be extra careful!
2. Do not make any sharp or sudden turns. Try to remain stable at all times.
3. Always go downhill in the lowest speed; you can set the speed control going up.
The MINOS POWER has an excellent brake, which is activated as soon as you release the joystick.
So there is no need to be afraid of slipping backwards or forwards if you have to stop while going
up or down!
Caution: For the sake of stability, the maximum inclination may not be exceeded! Maximum of 12º.
Driving on grass, gravel, etc.:
A solid surface is no problem to the MINOS POWER. However: high grass, loose sand, holes, loose
gravel, etc. are all "no access!"
Driving on and off pavements:
Caution: The MINOS POWER is ONLY suitable for driving up a LOW pavement edge, or over a LOW
threshold! Maximum height 5 cm.
