Cleaning Cart Tops
Remove the optional clear top mat and swab the top with cleaning solution that is suitable for ABS plastic or
melamine counter surfaces (Refer to Appendix A for more details). Use cleaning solution ABS for cart top and
PETG for top mat.
General Cart Care
1. Patient Drawers
– Styrene patient drawers can be rinsed with warm soapy water. They can also be cleaned
in institutional dishwashers however we strongly recommend that one drawer be tested before washing all
drawers. Wash drawers on the dishwasher’s top level using a 180° cycle for one minute then rinse at 220°F
(104°C) for one minute (don’t exceed one minute at this temperature!). Dry at 180°F (82°C) for another minute.
If your test wash is not successful, try lower temperatures. If you damage any drawers, contact customer
service for replacements.
2. Cart Body
– Never wash carts in pressure washers especially carts with electronics (keypads, automatic
relocking, halogen night lights). This will void your warranty. Clean the cart body with alcohol or ammonia-
based cleaners or over-the-counter cleaning solutions (e.g. Windex, Lysol Spray, Fantastic, etc.). Never use
solvent based cleaners on the carts because they can damage plastic components.
3. Cart Locks
– If lock cylinder keys are tight or difficult to remove, lubricate the cylinders with powdered graphite
or silicon spray.
4. Check Latch Plate
– To prevent cart locking problems, every two to three months, remove the bottom-most
storage drawer or cassette in each cart section to check for and remove medications and debris that has fallen
out of over-filled drawers. Remind nurses not to over-fill drawers.
Rear Tilt-Out Waste Bin (Optional)
1. Protect the bin’s interior by using disposable waste bags (not provided by Metro).
2. If your cart has a cart top waste pass-through, paperboard liners (LM340-SLEEVE) are available to keep the
chute area clean. Contact Metro for ordering information.
3. To remove the waste bin for cleaning, open it then lift it forward and up until the two bottom tabs clear. Tilt it
forward to clear the top retainer bracket and lift it out. Use warm soapy water to rinse and clean the bin or
similar solutions to those described in above.
4. Replace the bin by placing the top rear edge under the cart’s retainer bracket and then guide the bin’s two
bottom tabs into the cart slots.
Wall Lock (Optional)
NOTE:
Carts equipped with the wall lock option have a small round opening located on the right several inches
below the relock handle.
1. Attach the stainless wall lock plate to a wall or solid structure following the instructions provided. Hang the jack
end of the cable on the hook provided.
2. To lock the cart to a wall, remove the jack end of the cable from the wall plate and plug it into the factory
installed cart receptacle. When the cart’s main lock is engaged, the jack will lock into the cart. The jack lock
will also engage if it is plugged into a cart that is already locked.
3. The wall lock can be disengaged when the cart’s main lock is in the unlocked position.
