I could tell from my fi rst recordings that he had gotten their
soundstaging properties right. All that was missing were issues with
forming 3D images on that soundstage because of “pro” circuit
practices.
I replace the ceramic compensation caps used in the feedback
loops, record and playback equalization with “blended” polystyrenes.
I also replaced the electrolytics in the signal path , rewired the signal
path and the
fi nal huge improvement came with the substitution of a
Lundahl mic transformer [1538XL] for the existing BEYER.
Apart from one small glitch during a concert, the modi fi ed SM8’s
and AMI48 mixers have worked fl awlessly through over
300 concerts - testament to the genius of Quellet!
