Exterior Light Failure Indicator
Lamp
The light failure indicator comes on
with the key in steering lock posi­
tion 2 and will go out when the
engine starts.
If it comes on with the engine run­
ning, it indicates a light failure.
If an exterior light fails, the indicator
will come on only when that light is
switched on.
If a brake or turn signal light fails,
the light failure indicator will come
on when applying the brake or
actuating the turn signal and stay
on until the engine is turned off.
Caution!
If additional lighting equipment is
installed (e.g. auxiliary headlamps
etc.), be certain to connect into the
fuse before the failure indicator
monitoring unit in order to avoid
damaging the system.
Fuel Reserve Warning Lamp
The fuel reserve warning lamp
should come on when the key is
turned to steering lock position 2,
and should go out after the engine
is running.
If the warning lamp stays on after
the engine starts, or comes on
while driving, it indicates that the
fuel level is down to the reserve
quantity (11.5 I [3.0 US gal]).
Coolant Temperature Gauge
If the antifreeze mixture is effective
to —30° C (—22° F), the boiling
point of the coolant in the pressur­
ized cooling system of your vehicle
is approx. 125° C (257° F) (see also
“Fuels, Coolants, Lubricants, etc.”).
During severe operating conditions
and stop-and-go city traffic, the
coolant temperature may rise close
to the red marking.
Low Engine Coolant Level
Indicator Lamp
The indicator lamp comes on with
the key in steering lock position 2,
and should go out when the engine
is running.
If it comes on with the engine run­
ning, the coolant has dropped be­
low the required level. If no leaks
are noticeable and the engine tem­
perature does not increase, contin­
ue to drive to the nearest service
station and have coolant added to
the coolant system (see page 71).
Low Water Level Indicator Lamp
for Windshield Washer System
The indicator lamp comes on with
the key in steering lock position 2
and should go out when the engine
is running.
If the indicator lamp comes on with
the engine running, the level of the
reservoir has dropped 1/3 of the total
volume. The reservoir should be refill­
ed with MB Windshield Washer Con­
centrate “ S” and water (or commer­
cially available premixed windshield
washer solvent, depending on am­
bient temperature) at the next oppor­
tunity. The reservoir for the windshield
washer system is located in the en­
gine compartment (see page 108).
