sengers will then be p rotected by the
fastened seat belts and inertia reel in
the usual manner.
Notes:
Rear seat passengers should always
wear seat belts — fo r their own p ro­
tection and to avoid endangering the
driver and fro n t passenger with their
unrestricted forward movement.
No seat belt can be used for more
than one person. Children under the
age of six or under the w eight of
23 kg/50 lb should be seated in the
back seat with an approved restraint
system properly secured.
Child restraint systems recom ­
mended by us can be fastened to the
existing seat belts. Any authorized
MERCEDES-BENZ dealer will gladly
advise you on this subject.

Safety Guidelines for the Seat Belts
and Emergency Tensioning R etrac­
tor
Damaged belts or belts that were
highly stressed in an accident must
be replaced and their anchoring
points m ust also be checked. Use
only belts installed or supplied by
MERCEDES-BENZ.
Do not pass belts over sharp edges.
Do not make any m odification that
could change the effectiveness of the
belts.
A tensioning retractor that was acti­
vated must be replaced.
No m odifications of any kind may be
made to any com ponents or wiring of
the em ergency tensioning retractor.
Im proper w ork on the system, includ­
ing incorrect installation and removal,
can lead to possible injury through an
uncontrolled activation of the em er­
gency tensioning retractor. In addi­
tion, through im proper w ork there is
the risk of rendering the em ergency
tensioning retractor inoperative. Work
on the em ergency tensioning retrac­
to r must therefore only be performed
by an authorized MERCEDES-BENZ
dealer.
When scrapping the em ergency te n ­
sioning retractor, it is mandatory to
follow our safety instructions. These
instructions are available at every
authorized MERCEDES-BENZ dealer.
When you sell the vehicle we strongly
urge you to give notice to the sub­
sequent ow ner if it is equipped with
an em ergency tensioning retractor by
alerting him to the applicable section
in the O w ner’s Manual.
