Certain systems o f the engine
serve to keep the to xic co m p o ­
nents o f the exhaust gases w ith in
permissible lim its required by law.
(Nevertheless, w e u rgently advise
you not to let the engine run in a
closed garage). These systems,
o f course, w ill fu n c tio n properly
only w hen maintained stric tly ac­
cording to fa cto ry specifications.
Any adjustm ents on the engine
should, therefore, be carried out
only by qualified MERCEDES-BENZ
technicians. The adjustm ents o f
the engine should n o t be altered
in any way. M oreover, the speci­
fied service and m aintenance jobs
must be carried out regularly ac­
cording to MERCEDES-BENZ serv­
icing requirements. For details refer
to Owner's Emission C ontrol and
M aintenance Manual.
R ec o m m e n d e d s h ift points fo r
m anual transm ission
To obtain good results regarding
fuel econom y, the fo llo w in g sh ift
points are recom m ended:
S hift
from 1st to 2nd at 21 k m /h /1 3 mph
from 2nd to 3rd at 35 k m /h /2 2 mph
from 3rd to 4th at 52 k m /h /3 2 mph
Engine Oil C o nsu m p tio n
Engine oil consum ption can only
be determ ined after a certain mile
age has been covered. During the
break-in period, higher oil con­
sum ption may be noticed and is
normal. Frequent high engine
speed operation w ill also cause in­
creased oil consum ption.
