Towing a Vehicle
with Autom atic Transm ission
The vehicle may be towed with all
of the wheels on the ground and the
selector lever in position “ N” for dis
tances up to 120 km/75 miles and at a
speed not to exceed 50 km/h/30 mph.
To positively avoid a possibility of dam
age to the transmission, however, we
recommend to disconnect the drive
shaft at the rear axle drive flange on
any towing beyond a short tow to a
nearby garage.
Jump Starting
If the battery is discharged the engine
can be started with jum per cables (mi
nimum cable cross section is 35 mm2)
and the (12 V) battery of another vehi
cle. Proceed as follows:
1. Turn key to steering lock position 0.
2. First connect jum per cables to the
positive battery terminals and then
to the negative terminals.
3. Start and run engine of jum per ve
hicle at high idle.
4. Start engine of the disabled vehicle
in the usual manner.
5. After the engine has started, first
remove jum per cables from the ne
gative battery terminals and then
from the positive terminals.

F. In all cases
it must be thawed out before jum per
cables are used.
Never lean over batteries while jump
starting.
Warning
Battery fluid contains sulfuric acid. Do
not allow this fluid to come in contact
with eyes, skin, or clothing. In case it
does, immediately flush affected area
with water.
A battery will also produce hydrogen
gas, which is flamm able and explosive.
Keep flames or sparks away from bat
tery, i.e. improper connection of jum per
cables, cigarette smoking, etc..
