7. Remote Operation
7.1 General
The DPG 2400 can be operated from a remote computer which communicates over an
RS-232 (standard) or RS-485 serial port. The serial port can be used to configure and
calibrate the DPG 2400, or to read the output of its sensors. This section of the manual
provides information on the serial port configuration, explains the command conven-
tions used in this manual, and lists the common commands and queries which are
recognized by the DPG 2400.
7.2 Communication Syntax
All commands and responses are in ASCII characters; lower and upper case are inter-
preted the same. Every command or query begins with the pound symbol (#). The ques-
tion mark (?) character is significant to the DPG 2400. All other punctuation characters
are ignored. Some commands require a password string. A carriage return (<cr>) or
linefeed (<lf>) must terminate each command or query. The global address character is
an asterisk (*). It can be sent in place of the actual DPG 2400 address. See Table 7.2 for
“Command Conventions” and Table 7.2.5 for “Command Set”.
