Installation considerations
INSTALLATION OF A SPEEDSYS300 ODS301
3.2.6 Electrical connections
For the SpeedSys300 ODS301 module, electrical connections are established via removable
screw-terminal connectors. Each connector (entire pluggable terminal block), containing four
clamps/contacts can be removed by pushing against the connector tab (see
2.2.1 Removing
and inserting screw-terminal connectors ).
A suitable screwdriver should be used to loosen and tighten the screws before and after
inserting the wire into the clamps/contacts of each connector.
Table 3-13 provides detailed information on the specifications of the SpeedSys300 ODS301
module’s screw-terminal connectors.
The module’s housing and connectors use mechanical key-coding to prevent incorrect
connector insertion, for a system that is simple to operate and use.
A general wiring diagram illustrating the required grounding and shielding for most interfaces
in a typical application in an EMC/ESD uncontrolled area is shown in
3.2.10 General wiring
diagram .
3.2.7 Installations in hazardous areas
NOTE: Knowledge of the installation of field wiring and protective earth (PE),
instrument earth (IE) and intrinsically safe earth (IS) is required.
The SpeedSys300 ODS301 module’s sensor / input channel interfaces (proximity, electronic
and magnetic) are galvanically separated in order to allow a direct connection to a sensor /
measurement chain installed in a potentially explosive atmosphere (hazardous area),
eliminating the need for additional external safety barriers such as Zeners. See also
3.2.8 Sensor / input channel interface circuitry .
To support installations in hazardous areas, the SpeedSys300 ODS301 module’s connectors
can be divided into two groups:
•
Ex connectors, located on the top of the module.
NOTE: The SpeedSys300 ODS301 module’s Ex connectors are identifiable by their
blue colour.
• Non-Ex connectors, located on the bottom of the module.
