SAWING BRANCHES
WARNING:
• Make sure you have a good footing, and never stand on a ladder or the equivalent when sawing.
• Do not overreach.
• Never saw above shoulder height.
• Always hold the saw with both hands.
SAWING LOGS
WARNING:
• Make sure you have a good footing and that the tree is stable.
• Watch out for the fact that sawn logs can topple or roll away.
• Read the instructions in the section “Safe use” to prevent kickback.
• Before starting, check the direction of the bending force of the log to be cut.
• Always finish the sawing in the opposite direction to the bending force – to prevent the bar
jamming in the cut.
IMPORTANT: Only saw logs with a diameter less than the length of the bar.
NOTE: The best way of sawing wood is to use a sawhorse. If one is not available the log can be
supported with other wood or wooden blocks. Make sure that the log is stable.
Sawing an unsupported log
NOTE:
• If possible the log should be arranged so that the saw does not touch the ground when sawing
through it.
• Avoid touching the ground with the chain. Otherwise it can quickly become very blunt.
• Apply less pressure towards the end of the cut, without releasing the firm grip on the saw. This
allows you to have full control of the saw when it goes through.
• Wait until the chain has stopped before removing the saw after completing the cut.
• Always switch off the chain saw before moving to the next tree.
1.
Saw the log half way, roll it over and then saw the rest of the cut from the opposite side
(diagram 1).
