Testing a Patient’s Blood Glucose
Important Information on Alternative Site Testing (AST)
The EVENCARE ProView Blood Glucose Monitoring System can
test for blood glucose in areas other than the fingertip, such as
the palm and forearm (alternative site testing, or AST).
Alternative site testing can be less painful than fingertip testing.
Because of the physiological differences between the fingertip,
palm and forearm

, alternative site test results may be
significantly different than results from the fingertip under
certain conditions. Alternative site testing should only be performed
during a steady-state blood glucose condition.
DO AST ONLY in the following intervals:
•
In a pre-meal or fasting state (more than 2 hours since the last meal).
•
2 hours or more after taking insulin.
•
2 hours or more after exercise.
Alternative site measurements should never be used to calibrate continuous glucose
monitors (CGMs). Alternative site measurements should never be used for insulin dosing
calculations.
