Engine
01 Description
3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 (M838TE) with an 8,500rpm
limit is available in two outputs (540PS, 540Nm and 570PS,
600Nm)
02 Customer Benefits
The McLaren M838TE (E = Evolution) engine within Sports
Series combines high power outputs and surging torque
over a broad rpm encouraging drivers to reach the
8,500rpm limit.
A new start-stop system seen for the first time at McLaren
provides greater efficiency during city driving, reducing fuel
consumption and CO
2
output.
Other improvements to the efficiency of the powertrain
include new 60-deg camshaft phase controllers that reduce
internal engine inertia and provide greater control, both
benefitting CO
2
figures and engine response. The vacuum
system has also been deleted from the engine which saves
2.5 Kg and reduces complexity.
POWERTRAIN
New equal length exhaust manifolds produced from cast
stainless steel mounting sections mated to stainless steel
hydroformed tubes optimise exhaust flow and deliver a new,
distinctive McLaren sound.
New air intake, injectors, Turbo and stainless steel exhaust
systems also feature, optimised for efficiency and packaging
respectively. In total 30% of the powertrain is changed
compared to 650S.
03 Options & Limitations
The standard start-stop system is active as default, with a
control switch located in the active dynamics panel.
