Setting the Digital Address:
The address for the decoder is set with the eight
coding switches 1 (Fig. 5 ). As with a locomotive
decoder, different addresses can be set. Table 1
shows the appropriate settings for the different
switches for each address.
Turning the Function Outputs On and Off
The functions 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the function deco-
der can be controlled from buttons f1, f2,
f3, and f4 on the 60212 Central Station, the
60652 Mobile Station, the 6021 Control Unit, or
these same buttons on a 6036 Control 80f loco-
motive controller connected to the 6021 Control
Unit, or they can be controlled from a computer
connected by means of the 6051 Interface to a
6021 Control Unit.
Preparation
The 37100 decoder tester can be used to test
this decoder for trouble free operation.
Tip: The 6021 Control Unit must be used with one
of the two operating modes mentioned above
when connected to this tester as a source of
digital power!

Electrical Hookup
In the case of locomotives with locomotive de-
coders already built in, the red and brown wires
on the 60960 decoder are connected at the same
location as for the wires of the same colors from
the locomotive decoder (Illustration 1 ).
On H0 cars the red wire is connected to the
pickup shoe. The brown wire is connected to the
car’s ground (Illustration 2 ).
On 1 Gauge cars it doesn’t matter if the red wire
is connected to a wheel pickup for the right or
the left side. The brown wire is accordingly con-
nected to another wheel pickup for the other side
(Illustration 3 ).
Connect the desired function according to the
following scheme:
Connection for a user
on Function 1: hot wire, brown/red
ground wire, orange
on Function 2: hot wire, brown/green
ground wire, orange
on Function 3: hot wire, brown/yellow
ground wire, orange
on Function 4: hot wire, brown/white
ground wire, orange
Illustration 4 shows several examples for possible
users. Usually, smoke generators automatically
use the ground for the superstructure as a ground
return. Even smoke generators with 2 wires for
connections are not generally insulated from the
metal superstructure! For that reason it is recom-
mended that you use the ground present in the
superstructure as a ground return.
