6-3. Preparation of Installation
Th e scale unit and scale shaft are secured using a transport plate in order to prevent excessive vibration
or shocks from being applied to the scale shaft when transporting this product. Be sure to remove this
transport plate before using this product.

Th e transport plate cannot be used as the scale installation guide. Be sure to install the scale in accordance
with Section 6-1. “Installation Dimensions and Tolerance.”
6-4. Installation Procedure

Ensure that there is no dust, dirt or scratches on the installation surface of this product.
Check that there are no indentations, rust, or scratches on the machine shaft where this product
will be installed.
Completely wipe off any dust and dirt on the machine shaft .

Gently insert the scale shaft of this product into the machine shaft .
Th e machine shaft and scale shaft have precision dimensions that fi t together exactly, so do not use
excessive force when inserting the scale shaft .

Secure the product.
Use M4 screws when installing this product from the upper surface, or M6 screws when installing
from the lower surface. (M4 tightening torque: 2.5 N·m)

Secure the scale shaft to the machine shaft using the mounting nuts.
M20 × 1 nut tightening torque: 20 N·m
Installation can be performed smoothly by using a tightening wrench or fi xed wrench such as
shown in Section 10-2. “Reference Diagram.”
