Enabling the CUPS Interface on a Mac
CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) is a printing system that allows Mac OS devices to connect to various
printers on a network. The CUPS web interface may be disabled by default on a user’s Mac and so will need to
be enabled to access available network devices and to set default settings.

First, visit the following location to check the CUPS status:
http://localhost:631/printers/
A screen should then appear indicating that CUPS has been disabled. If this is the case, the CUPS Web
Interface can be enabled as follows:
• Copy the following string and paste into the Terminal:
cupsctl WebInterface=yes
• Press return, and close the terminal. Now you can access the CUPS Interface by entering:
localhost:631 into your browser address bar.

UNIX®-like operating systems. CUPS uses the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) to support printing to local and
network printers.
