1.7.10 Substances that may harm the health and environment
When cutting some materials substances can be given off, e.g. fumes and gases that are
dangerous for the health, poisonous or carcinogenic. Inform the operators and the maintenance
staff in detail about the possible dangers and the precautions to be taken. Workers who set up
the machine and who perform maintenance and other operations on the machine must also be
aware of the dangers. The employer is responsible for the availability and the completeness of
the information.

Look out for broken cutting lenses

Be careful when cutting some materials; other materials may
not be cut on the laser cutting machine
Environmental protection.
With regard to slag and filter residues, observe rules and regulations concerning the disposal
of special waste.
The emissions released into the air during the laser machining process must be vacuum-
extracted. In case of machining pieces that do not cover the entire surface on the chamber
extraction system, it is advisable to cover the remaining surface with other materials. In this
way the efficiency of the extraction system will increase.
The gas exhaust system may not be switched on when cutting materials with protection foil,
cardboard, wood or synthetic materials. The filters of the gas exhaust system may in
consequence be damaged.

Make sure the fume extraction equipment works properly
(repair faults as quickly as possible or notify LVD).

Discharge the air that has been extracted, that is cleaned and
released above the plant, outside.

Make sure there is sufficient ventilation in the vicinity round
the machine
1.7.11 Injuries caused by movements of the machine
Before entering a dangerous area, cut off the machine power to avoid bodily harm. Always be
aware of the presence of moving parts that can pinch fingers or hands.
DANGER

The machine should be completely disconnected if you have to
perform maintenance operations or repairs in and round the
working area (cutting table) of the laser cutting machine.

Never enter the working area when the machine is in
operation.

Never remove protective devices or defeat safety switches
around the working area when the machine is in operation.
