OPERATION
Sewing on buttons (zig-zag foot)
Use the following settings:
•
Stitch pattern rotary switch: 4 or 5
•
Stitch length: according to the distance of the holes in the button
•
Sewing foot: zig-zag foot
•
Thread tension adjusting wheel: 1-3
•
Lower the feeder (see page 18).
1. Place the button on the desired place on the fabric.
2. Adjust both buttonholes along the opening of the sewing foot (see figure), and place the left buttonhole
directly beneath the needlepoint.
3. Lower the sewing foot.
4. By using the hand wheel (23), check whether the stitch length is adjusted in a way that enables the
buttonholes to be exactly met.
5. If necessary, alter the stitch length by means of the stitch length rotary switch (13), or by means of
the stitch pattern rotary switch (14).
A sewing needle placed on the sewing foot serves to produce a bar during the
sewing process, which facilitates wrapping a thread around the bottom side of
the button later on.
6. Sew about five stitches and lift the needle.
7. Make sure that approximately 20 cm of the thread end remains if you
want a tighter button neck.
8. Thread the upper thread downward through a buttonhole and wrap the
thread several times round the thread connecting the button with the
sewing part, in order to produce a button neck.
9. Pull the thread through to the bottom side of the fabric and fasten it with knots.
NOTE:
After sewing the button on, lift the feeder again.
