ACTIV8™
MAKING A WELD
Theserviceabilityofaproductorstructureutilizingthe
ACTIV8™wirefeederisandmustbethesolerespon-
sibilityofthebuilder/user.Manyvariablesbeyondthe
control of The Lincoln Electric Company affect the
results obtained in using the ACTIV8™ wire feeder.
Thesevariablesinclude,butarenotlimitedto,welding
procedure, plate chemistry and temperature, weld-
mentdesign,fabricationmethodsandservicerequire-
ments. The available range of the ACTIV8™ wire
feedermaynotbesuitableforallapplications,andthe
builder/user is and must be solely responsible for
weldingsettings.
•ClosethedoorontheACTIV8™.
•Checkthatthepowersourceisturnedoff.
•Connect the work cable to the metal to be welded.
Theworkcablemustmakegoodelectricalcontactto
thework.Theworkmustalsobegroundedasstated
in"ArcWeldingSafetyPrecautions".
•Connect the ACTIV8™ electrode and work cable to
the power source for the polarity and process to be
used.Checkthattheappropriatepowersourceset-
tingsaremadefortheproceduretobeused.(Refer
to the power source operating and connection
instructions.)
•PlacetheACTIV8™convenientlyneartheworkarea
inasafelocationtominimizeexposuretoweldspat-
terandtoavoidsharpbendsintheguncable.
•ConnecttheACTIV8™workcliptothework.
•Besurethepropercontacttipforthewiresizebeing
usedisinthegun.
•Turn on the welding power source, as well as the
shieldinggassupply(ifused.)
•Cut the electrode within approximately 3/8" (10mm)
oftheendofthecontacttipforsolidwireandwithin
3/4"(19mm)oftheextensionguideforcoredwire.
•Positiontheelectrodeoverthejoint.Theendofthe
electrodeshouldbeslightlyoffthework.
•Lower welding helmet, close the gun trigger and
begin welding. Hold the gun so the contact tip to
workdistancegivesthecorrectelectricalstickoutas
requiredfortheprocedurebeingused.
•Tostopwelding,releasetheguntriggerandthepull
thegunawayfromthework.
