Cause
The atomized paint droplets are not
flowing together to form a smooth,
level, uniform surface. This can be
caused by the following:
1) droplets too large
2) droplets drying too fast to flow out
3) cold weather spraying.
Condensation of moisture trapped in
the applied coating when spraying in
hot, humid conditions.
Silicone contamination from lubri-
cants, grease, polish of waxes on the
surface being sprayed.
Applying too much paint per pass for
the drying conditions.
Sprayed film surface drying before
solvent gas can be released.
Remedy
1) DROPLETS TOO LARGE - Be sure to
maintain proper gun distance, 4" to 8". See
air cap ad justment on. If droplets are still
too Iarge, reduce material or use a smaller
air cap. Be sure air intake filter on Turbine is
clean to allow full air flow. An air hose that is
too long will reduce atomizing air. Ensure
airflow contol valve fully open (all models) or
increase motor speed (T-75Q & T-90Q)
2) DROPLETS DRYING TOO FAST TO
FLOW OUT - Keep object being sprayed out
of direct sunlight. When spraying in warmer
temperatures use a slower evaporating
solvent or a retarder.
3) COLD WEATHER SPRAYING - Try to keep
material and object being sprayed as close
to room temperature as possible. When
sprayed on a cold surface most paints will
become too thick to flow out properly.
1) Allow turbine to warm up a few minutes
before spraying.
2) Store material off concrete floors at room
temperature.
3) Apply lighter
coats and allow for proper dry
time.
4) Use a slower evaporating solvent or re-
tarder.
5) Do not spray in windy conditions.
Clean all parts with a cleaning sclvent. Use
one solvent rag and a clean wiping rag.
Change rags as required. If problem persists
use a fish eye eliminator.
1) Move gun faster or decrease material flow.
2) Maintain proper gun distance.
3) Reduce amount of thinner or use a faster
drying thinner.
1) Apply material in lighter coats to allow
proper evaporation.
2) Be sure to use recommended thinners.
3) Follow steps above in "droplets too large” to
increase atomization.
