Connecting the throttle to accelerate
to approximately 25km/h
IMPORTANT LEGAL NOTE
Leitner electric bikes are built to comply with Australian
road rules according to the norm called EN15194. It is the
European Ebike Norm which has been adapted by
Australia. Please find more info here:

Many customers were asking for a throttle which allows
the bike to go around 25km/h without pedalling. We have
included a feature in the Leitner Aria bike models to
connect the throttle as described below
WARNING! After connecting the throttle your eBike will
no longer comply with the EN15194 standard and may
be illegal in your state for use on roads. Therefore the
bike must NOT be used on public roads if the throttle is
unlocked. The bikes must only be used on private
property or other OFF ROAD locations where it is legal to
use such a bike.
If you ride a 250w bike with the unlocked throttle on
public roads you may receive heavy fines for riding
“a
motorbike without registration and
license”
. We would
like you to be aware of this and Leitner Pty Ltd does under
no circumstances take any liability for any issues involving
riding a bike with unlocked throttle illegally.
PROCEDURE TO CONNECT THE THROTTLE.
Time required: Approximately 10 minutes.
The Aria has a throttle which is installed on the handle-
bar.
By default the throttle is NOT functional
because it is
not connected to the Ebike controller.
A) WARNING! Switch off the bike and disconnect the
battery cable from the battery socket (1, Figure T1
and T2) before accessing the controller
to avoid
accidental short circuits. Wear personal protective
equipment like safety glasses to protect your eyes
from potential sparks. Handle wires with care and
don’t
use force to avoid damaging the wires. If you
don’t
feel comfortable with these instructions have
the procedure performed by a skilled ebike
technician.
WARNING!
Handle wires carefully so that
they
don’t
get damaged.
The controller
The controller is the
“brain”
of the ebike. All wires are
connected to it and the controller controls all functions of
the bike. To activate the throttle, access the controller
and connect the black plastic clip of the throttle wire to
the following the instructions below.

B)
Place
the
bike
upside
down
on a soft
surface
to
avoid damaging
any parts of the
bike.
Ensure
the
bike
is
stable.
C)
Use an Allen Key to remove the
three visible Allen bolts
(2)
. One
Allen bolt (3)
may be underneath some black
cables. Gently try to move the cables out of the way or go
in between them with the
Allen key (8)
to remove the
bolt
(3) (Magnified in Figure T3)
.
D) Carefully remove the
controller cover plate (4).
E) Tips: -
While searching for the disconnected black clips,
try to remove as few as possible wires from the
compartment. This will make it easier to close the
controller cover plate later.
-There may be a white clip with red and black wires which
is not connected which is normal.
Locate
the disconnected black plastic clip (5)
with
RED,
BLACK and WHITE wires (6)
coming out of the controller
(silver box). Locate the
disconnected throttle black plastic
clip (8) with RED, BLACK and GREEN wires (9). Connect
both black plastic clips to each other (7)
red to red, black
to black, green to white. You will hear a
“click”
sound.
F)
Carefully put all wires back, gently place the
controller
cover plate (4)
back without squeezing or damaging any
wires. Screw all
four Allen bolts (2, 3)
back in place. Ensure
the controller cover plate is installed correctly and without
gap to minimize water intrusion.
G)
Put the bike back into a normal upright position.
CAUTION:
Before you switch the bike on, stay clear of the
motor and wheel and have one hand on the brake lever to
stop the bike immediately if the motor accelerates by
accident. You may consider to lift the front wheel off the
ground. Connect the battery. Switch the bike on. The
throttle is now active.
H)
Gently push the throttle down a little bit with your
thumb.
CAUTION: The bike will leap forward if the throttle
is pushed down.
Enjoy your bike with the unlocked throttle
. Do NOT ride on
public roads!
