Architecture in den 1960ern

Der  Ursprung  der  aktuellen  LEGO®  Architecture
Produktreihe  lässt  sich  in  die  frühen  1960er
zurückverfolgen,  in  denen  der  LEGO  Stein  einen
stetigen  Popularitätszuwachs  verzeichnete.  Godtfred
Kirk  Christiansen,  der  damalige  Eigentümer  des
Unternehmens, suchte zu jener Zeit nach Möglichkeiten,
das LEGO System noch weiter auszubauen, und bat seine
Entwickler, sich ein Set neuer Bauteile auszudenken, das
dem  Bauen  mit  LEGO  eine  neue  Dimension  verleihen
würde.

Die  Lösung  der  Entwickler  war  ebenso  einfach  wie
revolutionär:  Fünf  Elemente,  die  zu  den  vorhandenen
Steinen  passten,  aber  nur  ein  Drittel  von  deren  Höhe

besaßen. Diese neuen Bau-„Platten“ ermöglichten die

Konstruktion detaillierterer Modelle als zuvor.

Diese größere Flexibilität entsprach dem damaligen

Zeitgeist. Es war die Ära, in der moderne Architekten

neu definierten, wie Häuser auszusehen hätten, und die

Menschen zeigten ein aktives Interesse an der Gestaltung
ihres Traumhauses. Aus diesen Trends ging Anfang 1962
das „Maßstabsgetreue LEGO Modell“ hervor.

Schon der Name selbst stellte einen direkten Bezug zur

Arbeitsweise der Architekten und Ingenieure her, und

es wurde die Hoffnung gehegt, sie würden ihre Projekte
maßstabsgetreu mit LEGO Elementen bauen. Genau wie
LEGO Architecture heute waren die Originalsets anders
aufgemacht als die normalerweise bunten LEGO Boxen
und enthielten zur Inspiration ein Architekturbuch.

Obwohl die fünf Elemente auch heute noch einen

integralen Bestandteil des LEGO Bausystems darstellen,
wurde die Produktreihe der „maßstabsgetreuen Modelle“
im Jahr 1965 eingestellt. Es sollte mehr als 40 Jahre
dauern, bis ihre Prinzipien in der uns heute als LEGO

Architecture bekannten Produktreihe wieder aufleben

würden.
