Preparing Manikin for Use:

Inserting Bolus:

1. Apply a small amount of talcum powder to bolus

before inserting into mouth.

2. Using index finger and medium pressure, push

bolus past first point of resistance just inside throat.

Do no store bolus in mouth when not in use.

Laerdal Recommends:

Talcum powder is used to simulate normal saliva in
throat and should be applied frequently to reduce friction
between bolus and mouthpiece.

Be sure bolus is lodged tightly down Choking Charlie’s
throat. No air should be escaping.
