Chain wear

In order to check the chain wear, regard the following instructions:
Shift the gear into idling and pull the upper chain strand with approx. 10-15
kilogramm (33 lb) upwards (see figure). Now one can measure a space of
18 chain reels at the lower chain strand. The chain should be replaced at the
latest when a space of 272 mm (10,70 in) is measured. Chains do not
always wear off evenly, therefore repeat the measurement at different pla-
ces on the chain.
NOTE:
If you mount a new chain, the sprockets should also be replaced. New
chains wear faster if used on old used sprockets.

Maintaining chain tension eccentrics

To ensure trouble-free adjustment, take the chain tension eccentrics out at
least once a year for maintenance them. To do this:
Remove rear wheel.
Loosen hexagon nuts

on the left and right swing arm fists.

Remove eccentrics.
Clean eccentrics and swing arm fists thoroughly and grease the slide faces
with a Molykote grease or spray.
Replace eccentrics (eccentric with the thread goes in the left swing arm fist).
Turn both eccentrics to the same position (marks should be aligned with the
notches in the swing arm fists.
Tighten hexagon nuts on the swing arm fists with 40 Nm (30 ft.lb).
Mount the rear wheel and tighten the wheel spindle to 80 Nm (59 ft.lb).
Adjust the chain tension.
